Introduction:

The Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association Ltd (AACMA), formed in 1973, is the largest and most established professional association of qualified acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners in Australia. AACMA represents over 2030 members, including 1670 qualified practitioner members and over 360 student members.

AACMA has negotiated ALL the major benefits and developments of the acupuncture and Chinese medicine profession in Australia, including:

- national registration of the profession
- comprehensive private health insurance cover for acupuncture and Chinese medicine services
- workers compensation and traffic accident cover
- GST-fee status for acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine services
- Australian Guidelines for Traditional Chinese Medicine Education – the only national education standards for the profession in Australia
- Australian Journal of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine - Australia’s only peer-reviewed academic journal for the profession
- The only acupuncture/Chinese medicine association in Australia to be awarded government funding (2 funding grants in 2002 and 2008)
- The only acupuncture/Chinese Medicine association in Australia to have a full-time fully staffed national office, dedicated solely to supporting and promoting the profession.
